The Venetian Macao, up close
The Venetian Macao opened on the Cotai Strip in 2007, and its exterior borrows freely from Venice itself: a bell tower modelled on the Campanile, arched loggias and a pastel palazzo front. Every room here is a suite, split into a sleeping area and a sunken lounge, which hands couples and families far more floor space than an ordinary city room. Windows face either the glittering Cotai skyline or the green hills of Taipa.
Indoors, the Grand Canal Shoppes run beneath a ceiling painted as a soft evening sky, and singing gondoliers steer boats along channels lined with boutiques. Cotai Arena books concerts and large events, while an outdoor pool deck offers relief from the humidity. Complimentary shuttles serve the ferry terminals and the border, and the colonial lanes of Taipa Village are a short walk away. The gaming hall is vast, yet signage lets hotel guests reach the lifts without crossing it.
