How we choose
One set of questions for every resort, answered in sentences rather than numbers.
At a glance
- The overnight stay, and nothing else, sets the order.
- No stars, grades or pooled ratings; just written reasons.
- Nobody can purchase a place on the list.
01The overnight decides
We follow a guest from the porte-cochère to the checkout desk: the setting, the bones of the building, how restful each bedroom feels, and which sights lie a short stroll off. The casino sits in our notes beside the luggage room and the fitness centre, with zero influence on placement.
02Sentences in place of scores
Readers will find no stars, numerical grades or pooled guest ratings anywhere on sertyuoiu. Every position is an editor's call, and the argument for it lives in the prose of each entry.
03Closed to buyers
Resorts, hotel chains and their agencies have no route to purchase a place, or a better one. Outbound links are clean: no tracking codes, no commissions and no reservation widgets.
04Five questions per resort
| Theme | The question |
|---|---|
| Surroundings | Would you travel here even without the hotel, and how far can you roam on foot, by rail or by boat? |
| Architecture | Does the building have a shape, story or position that lingers in memory after checkout? |
| Bedrooms | Floor space, daylight, the view from the glass, and whether one wing lags behind another. |
| Beyond the bedroom | Water, treatments, food, greenery, stages and outdoor escapes that make the trip worthwhile with the gaming floor left unvisited. |
| The right guest | Who is most likely to enjoy the place, condensed into the closing "Best for" line. |
05Keeping the list fresh
Every entry gets a routine reread, and any resort that announces new branding, a renovation or a shutdown is looked at again straight away. The month printed next to the ranking title records the latest pass.
